Georgia: The Latest on Constitutional Carry!

I know that we’ve been flooding your inbox with emails on Constitutional Carry over the last two weeks, but things are moving very fast in Atlanta, and we want to keep you informed.

Here’s where things stand right now in Atlanta.

Late last month, the State Senate passed Constitutional Carry (SB-319) through the Senate on a party line vote. That bill is now lodged in the House Public Safety Committee.

And late last Friday, the House passed Constitutional Carry (HB-1358) through the House of Representatives, also on a party line vote. That bill will now be assigned to a Senate committee.

So both chambers have passed a version of Constitutional Carry. But since the language is not identical, the House needs to pass the Senate version, or the Senate needs to pass the House version, before Constitutional Carry can get to Brian Kemp’s desk.

GGO greatly prefers the Senate bill over the version that passed the House last week as the House version incorporates some issues in current law that are restrictive -– but both versions would make Georgia a Constitutional Carry state.

But there is a danger here that you need to be aware of.

You see, some politicians in Atlanta are already running ads for their re-election campaigns in their districts, touting the passage of Constitutional Carry, when this fight is NOT over.

And some insiders are telling us that there are politicians in the legislature who are trying to convince House and Senate leaders to simply take no more action at all, convinced that their earlier vote for Constitutional Carry will secure their re-elections even if the bill isn’t signed into law!

I’m sure you’ll agree that that would be completely unacceptable, especially as four other states are likely to become Constitutional Carry states this year!

So please help us keep the pressure on the legislature by emailing your State Senator and State Representative today, reminding your State Senator and State Representative that the pressure won’t relent until this bill is on Brian Kemp’s desk!

The members of Georgia Gun Owners have fought relentlessly for this legislation for years, and you are the only reason why we are as close as we are to finishing this fight, because Brian Kemp and the legislature are terrified of angry gun owners!

Don’t give up!

P.S. Now that both chambers of the legislature have passed their own version of Constitutional Carry, one chamber needs to pass the other chamber’s version before it gets to Brian Kemp’s desk.

Don’t let the legislature slow roll Constitutional Carry and run out the clock. Email both your State Senator and State Representative right away, and insist they finish this fight!
