Because of the massive pressure from GGO members, SB-572 (our Enhanced Stand-Your-Ground law) just PASSED the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee.
The vote was 5-4.
I was in the room when it happened, and I can tell you firsthand — this was far closer than it should have been.
SB-572 strengthens Georgia’s self-defense law by ensuring that innocent citizens who defend themselves are presumed innocent in the wake of a self-defense shooting. This change is massive!
The bill also guarantees a pre-trial immunity hearing and requires probable cause before police can arrest someone who used force lawfully. These protections have big ramifications.
In short, SB-572 protects victims — not criminals.
And it only moved forward because lawmakers felt the heat from tens of thousands of emails, calls, and messages from GGO members like you! Thank you for taking action!

Two Republicans — Representatives Bill Fincher and Deb Silcox — sided with Democrats to oppose the bill. That meant every other pro-gun vote had to hold the line for SB-572 to survive.
This is exactly why your sustained pressure matters. One or two defections can change everything.
The good news is that SB-572 has already passed the Senate, so clearing this House committee is a major step forward.
But the fight is not over.
The bill now moves to the House Rules Committee, where leadership decides whether it will reach the floor for a final vote. We’ll have an action link to contact this committee soon.
