GEORGIA: We’re in the Judiciary Committee Now!

As you’re reading this GGO‘s Alex Dorr is in a pitched battle in the Senate Judiciary Committee!

This happened fast.

Over the weekend, GGO was notified that our Pre-Emption bill was going to be heard in the Judiciary Committee today.

This bill, Senate Bill 163, is sponsored by Senator Colton Moore.

This bill increases the penalties in Georgia’s Pre-Emption law, something that we all know we desperately need to do.

(GGO’s Political Director, Alex Dorr, testifying before the Judiciary Committee moments ago.)

Georgia has Pre-Emption law. And our Pre-Emption law has teeth, after a fashion.

If any city or county violates Pre-Emption law, and enacts their own gun control laws, they can be sued in civil court — for $100.

I’m sure you can see the problem… $100 doesn’t go very far these days.

The Mayor of Savanna agrees. That’s why last summer he enacted a new gun control ordinance in direct violation of Georgia law, because he wasn’t scared of the penalties.

His ordinance would make criminals out of Georgians who have firearms stolen out of our cars by criminals.

When the Attorney General gave a letter telling him to stop, the mayor laughed at him and said he’ll “see us in court”.

GGO is more than willing to see the mayor of Savannah in court, but we prefer civil court.

Our bill would increase the penalties against any city/county who violates Pre-Emption law from $100 to $50,000!

Based on how things are going right now, we anticipate the bill moving through Committee quickly and it may be on the Senate floor very fast. That’s why I hope you’ll sign your petition to your Senator, telling him/her to vote. Yes, on SB – 163.
