Georgia’s pre-emption law states that only the legislature has the authority to regulate firearms. No city or county can enact laws more restrictive than the General Assembly. But current law has no penalties…and that is why it is abused.
Savannah recently enacted local gun control laws, in violation of state law, and proceeded to charge 42 people with violating their illegal ordinance.
GGO’s SB-204 would fix this by putting civil penalties into existing law.
If Governor Kemp signs SB-204, cities and counties that violate preemption and enact local gun control laws could be sued by individual gun owners for $25,000 per violation!
But the Democrats and their allied gun control groups are trying to get Governor Kemp to veto the bill, and he needs to hear from gun owners now.
Send this pre-written email to Governor Kemp, urging him to sign SB-204 into law right away so Georgians will be protected from rogue Democrat cities.
